Ernest Hemingway’s Quotes

  1. “The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed.”
  2. “But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
  3. “Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.”
  4. “Worry a little bit every day and in a lifetime you will lose a couple of years. If something is wrong, fix it if you can. But train yourself not to worry: Worry never fixes anything. ”
  5. “Never think that war, no matter how necessary nor how justified, is not a crime.”
  6. “There isn’t always an explanation for everything.”
  7. “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
  8. “Courage is grace under pressure.”
  9. “I felt very lonely when they were all there.”

Finally, the last quote:

“Maybe…you’ll fall in love with me all over again.

Hell, I said, I love you enough now. What do you want to do? Ruin me?

Yes, I want to ruin you.

Good, I said, That’s what I want too.”

    • Thanks, Pooja for sharing your favorite quote.
The Old Man And The Sea is indeed an inspirational story of an old fisherman and is mainly focused on a single theme of man’s unwavering struggle against the adverse forces amidst the unfavorable circumstances.
However, if you wanna read about the diverse subjects of war, love, loss, post-war trauma, aimlessness of life and lost generations, you should try his other works.

  3. “What do you want to do? Ruin me?” What a beautiful romantic line. LOL. Love just can’t fit in the social structure. Often it is love leading to social ruin or social advancement leading to the destruction of love.

  4. I have A Farewell to Arms but not read it yet. I also want to read For whom the bell tolls. I studied The Spanish civil War as part of my degree, and learned about the International Brigades. I’ve always wanted to read his work. I’ll get around to it eventually
